Position Summary
The Arborist maintains trees and woody plants to ensure their healthy, safe, and attractive condition including chemical applications, repairing, cabling, fertilizing, watering, pruning, and removal of any dead, diseased or declining trees, or other woody plants.

This is a full-time benefits eligible position.

The Physical Plant Department is responsible for the care and upkeep of the physical campus environment. Additionally, the department maintains the University's district energy system providing electricity, steam, chilled water and domestic water through its own distribution systems.

Skills / Requirements


Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.


Preferred Qualifications
Experience:

  • Climbing trees and working aloft
  • Maintaining work records and using Windows based computer programs
  • In tree pruning, removal, spraying and maintenance practices
  • Working in a multi-cultural environment that recognizes, tolerates, and supports a diversity of opinions and life styles
  • With tree identification and recognizing tree hazards
  • With safe working practices while working in trees, including equipment, operations, and job sites

    Knowledge of tree planting practices and routine maintenance of trees

    Possession:
  • Of State of New Mexico Pesticide License in Ornamental and Turf Pest Control
  • Of a current International Society of Arboriculture Arborist Certification (ISA)
  • Of a current State of New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
