PHYSICAL THERAPIST

Minimum Experience: Less than 1 year

Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree

Shift: Days

PT Primary Functions -

* Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

* Plans and implements physical therapy program for each patient including therapeutic exercise, modalities, neuromuscular re-education, orthotics/prosthetics, applying ergonomic principles, wound care functional daily living tasks, positioning of patients, wheelchair assessment, assistive devices.

* Applies diagnostic and prognostic muscles, nerve, joint and functional ability tests.

* Provides instructions in therapeutic procedures to be continued by the patient/family/caregiver.

* Adapts conventional physical therapy techniques to meet the needs of patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regimen of therapeutic exercises.

* Conducts or participates in training medical and nursing personnel in physical therapy techniques and objectives, as well as, vendors and community.

* Evaluates, records, and reports on patients' progress for review by other members of the rehabilitative team.

* Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings. Maintains CPR certification. Supports values and philosophies of the facility.

* Attends meetings as required.

* Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

PTA Primary Functions-


* Implements treatment programs for improvement of physical or developmental dysfunction and independence in activities of daily living.

* May modify treatment procedures in accordance with changes in patient status within the scope of the treatment plan established by an Occupational Therapist.

* Educates and instructs regarding home programs and preventive measures as appropriate to patient, family, and others.

* Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department in a timely manner.

* Communicates with patient, family, physician, and other healthcare providers regarding patient care.

* Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

* Participates in educational programs and in-services and other meetings as required.

* Participates on special project teams and other related duties as assigned and required.

* Performs other functions as required.

Skills / Requirements
PT Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy at an accredited university. Licensure from State of New Mexico Licensing Board. Less than one year experience in Physical Therapy. Has acquired the necessary practice skills through experience or self-study to appropriately evaluate and treat a wide variety of patients in any age group with physical dysfunctions.

Requires detailed knowledge of evaluation and treatment of individuals with muscular, skeletal and neurological deficits in term of what and how work is to be done as well as why it is done, this level includes interpretation of data. This staff member must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of patients served.

Mental Power: Ability to make decisions are varied but are usually confined to situations which are familiar. There are several defined alternative solutions available.
Mental Power: Ability to exercise choice in how work is accomplished with independence to operate within established policies, procedures and schedules.
Physical Power: Walks, sits stands, kneels, lifts, reaches, carries, pushes, pulls, climbs stairs, transfers patients.


PTA Minimum Skills -
Two to three years college level courses/Associate's Degree/Diploma in Physical Therapy Assistant. Physical Therapy Assistant License required. Less than one year experience in Physical Therapy
