Job Description Summary:Leads analysis of customer and system requirements and development of architectural approaches and detailed specifications for various electronic products. Leads development of high-level and detailed designs consistent with requirements and specifications. Leads reviews of testing and analysis activity to assure compliance to requirements. Identifies, tracks and statuses technical performance measures to measure progress and ensure compliance with requirements. Leads activities in support of Supplier Management with make/buy recommendations and other technical services. Coordinates engineering support throughout the lifecycle of the product. Plans research projects to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. Works under minimal direction.

Boeing Laser and Electro-Optical systems (LEOS) develops high performance Directed Energy and Electro-Optical Systems for a variety of customers and platforms. These solutions are typically employ embedded custom electronics and processing hardware using combination of FPGA’s and general purpose processors.
Boeing LEOS is looking for highly skilled and adaptable Lead Electrical Engineers to perform design, analysis and test of digital and analog electronics. Engineer would work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the development of both directed energy and electro-optical systems. This position is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- Review of system requirements to develop specifications and technical documentation in support of design reviews.
- Design, development, test and qualification of new embedded electronics; both analog and digital circuits including the design of FPGA and processor electronics.
- Specify and select electronics components, generate schematics and develops and/or assists in PCB layouts.
- Hands on in laboratory checkout and test of prototype electronics including the ability debug and troubleshoot electronics designs, and to work with electrical technicians to facilitate real-time changes to the electronics.
This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
- Experience designing, developing, testing, qualifying new embedded electronics.
- Experience working with laboratory checkout and test of prototype electronics including the ability to debug and troubleshoot electronics designs.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
- Experience working with electro-optical systems.
- Experience with developing on or interfacing to Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).
- Experience working in research and development environment.
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
