Location: Main Campus - Portales, New Mexico
The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

Position Summary
Under limited supervision, will provide comprehensive, high-quality, personal, wellness and career counseling services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct intake interviews
  • Provide mental health assessments
  • Conduct counseling in individual and group settings
  • Make appropriate referrals
  • Maintain appropriate clinical documentation
  • Provide wellness and career counseling intervention
  • Provide mental health, careers and wellness educational programs and opportunities
  • Prepare programs and present topic workshops relevant to mental health, wellness and/or career development
  • Assist students in clarifying career goals, researching employment, and opportunities for advanced degree study
  • Develop strategies for students to successfully secure employment (Strategies include preparation of resumes and cover letters, practice interview sessions, and researching specific employers)
  • Administer and interpret various career and personality inventories
  • Recruit employers for career events and create student interest and support for career events
  • Plan and implement employment fairs/Arrange on-campus or site employment recruitment interviews
  • Manage department social media to build awareness for services offered as well as offer relevant information about careers and wellness to students
  • Manage department portal page and employment listings
  • Assist with counselor on-call duties
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • A master's degree in counseling or a relevant field such as psychology, social work, or college student development
  • Ability to meet New Mexico licensure requirements for LMHC or LPCC within 90 days of employment, (see New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Board Article 9: 1-30 or equivalent licensure in profession)
  • Experience interacting effectively with college students from diverse ethnic backgrounds is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of the progression of college student development, career development and wellness principles.
  • Knowledge of career instruments and assessments (Holland Codes, CHOICES360, Strong Interest Inventory and MBTI preferred)
  • Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter)
  • Proficient knowledge of and skill with computer programs so as to be able to manage careers software and employment platforms
  • Ease with public speaking and offering multimedia presentations

 Working Conditions:
 Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed during normal work hours but will require some evening and weekend hours to meet operational needs for on-call crisis counseling
  • Work is performed inside a non-smoking facility with regular work hours
  • Position requires median work with 40 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry
  • Position requires reaching, handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing
