Job Summary:  The Manager of Security & Environmental Health/Safety is responsible for supervising, training and counseling the security guards, and for the protection, safeguarding and security of assets, caregivers, patients and visitors through compliance with the Facility/Security Plan. Additionally, he/she is responsible for assisting the Director of Security & Environmental Health/Safety with the overall development, implementation and monitoring of the hospital safety and security programs to ensure a safe and accident-free environment for patients, visitors and caregivers. Responsible for assisting Director with assuring compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), OSHA and other state and federal regulations; in conjunction with Director, develops and coordinates effective new caregiver orientation education on all safety and security regulations, procedures and operating systems; responsible for regular safety and security inspections of hospital physical plant and grounds, for drills and system tests and the implementation of required corrective actions; assists with the preparation and submission of required reports on safety and security programs and, coordinates hospital safety and security programs, including emergency response, with local and state officials.  As leader for GRMC security officers and program, the Manager will assist the Director to build and direct the strategic development, implementation, and administration of policies, practices, and procedures to safeguard the infrastructure, associates, providers, patients and families and other assets, and delivery of services from sabotage, tampering, theft, violence, and acts of terrorism and to insure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and healthcare regulatory requirements. This is considered a succession planning role.


  • Minimum High School Diploma with at least 3 years related experience in environmental health and safety.

  • Prefer Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, or Occupational Health

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support within 90 days of hire

  • Completion of CPI Training within 90 days of hire.

  • Applicant must not have been convicted of felony, have a history of offense involving illegal use of weapons and acts of violence. 
  • Applicant must be in good condition physically, and willing to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Every applicant must have a valid driver’s license. 

  • Prefer at least 3 years related experience in environmental health and safety.

  • Proven organizational skills

  • Possess time management skills, ability to multi-task and problem solve with ease

  • Experience with written, oral and computer communication skills to convey information to employees, managers and contractors

  • Experience with all health and safety codes, regulations, laws and policies pertaining to the health and safety of the interior and exterior of the facility

  • Experience with assessments of risks and identify hazards in the workplace to create a safe and healthy environment

  • Knowledge of how to organize, identify and complete permits pertaining to health and safety, such as environmental permits, fire safety permits, and operating permits

  • Security and Hospital Plant and Facilities, experience preferred

  • Ability to use Micro-Soft word and have a general computer working knowledge
