Executive Officer
Job Description
The Executive Officer (EO) is responsible for providing inspirational and successful leadership, direction, and administration of all aspects of the Association’s activities meeting the needs of the membership in ways that enable the members to prosper and the Association to thrive.
The EO oversees all operational, financial, and administrative aspects of the Association and ensures alignment with strategic goals and mission of the 501(c)(6) Association. The EO is the face of the Association, advocating for its mission and values.
Reports To: Executive Committee and Board of Directors
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
o Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board and ensure open communication about the measurement of financial, programmatic, and impact performance against organizational goals.
o Collaborate with the Board of Directors to refine and implement strategic plans while ensuring that the budget, staff, and priorities are aligned with the Association's core mission.
o Plan, coordinate and conduct a public relations program to enhance public acceptance of the industry. Maintain positive community relations & advocacy for the Association’s goals through communication with stakeholders, keeping them informed of the work of the Association.
o Establish and maintain healthy working relationships, positive community relations, and work collaboratively with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the Association.
o Develops and coordinates legislative, regulatory and political efforts and maintains relationships with government officials and agencies impacting the industry.
o Acts as a liaison with NAHB and attend official meetings and training as budget and time allows.
Revenue Generation and Communications
o Plans and executes all communications to the membership.
o Expand revenue-generating activities to support existing program operations. Working alongside staff and members to properly manage and execute all revenue and non revenue generating events.
o Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from online presence to external relations with community Associations, relevant governmental officials with a goal to strengthen the Association, further strategic goals, and maintain and grow membership. Serves as Executive Editor of official publications.
o Use public presence and external relationships to garner new opportunities that are beneficial to the greater membership and advance Association goals.
Operational and Financial Management
o Assist in Developing an annual budget in cooperation with the Treasurer and Finance Committee.
o Collaborate with Board to develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and processes to enhance Associational efficiency and effectiveness.
o Ensure the fiscal integrity of the Association, working with the Board to prepare a comprehensive budget. Oversee the Association's finances to ensure financial stability and sustainability.
o Administer the funds of the Association according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow. - Maintain a robust and accurate system of internal financial and operational controls. Coordinate with the bookkeeper and the treasurer to ensure that all monthly requirements are sent to the bookkeeper and then reviewed by the treasurer to be presented in proper manner to the board.
o Develop operational plans which incorporate Association goals and objectives working towards the strategic direction of the Association.
- Ensure that the operation of the Association meets the expectations of its members, Board, and patrons/sponsors
o Lead planning, coordination, promotion, and execution of major annual events including, but not limited to:
- Home Show
- Parade of Homes
- Annual Golf Tournament
- Any other events that can possibly generate income.
o Develop new event concepts and member gatherings (luncheons, workshops, networking socials) to foster community and increase member value.
o Secure venues, manage logistics, coordinate with vendors, and oversee event budgets.
o Collaborate with the Events Committee and volunteers to ensure successful execution and innovation in event programming.
o Manage event sponsorships and exhibitor relations to maximize revenue and participation.
Board Administration and Support
o Attends all meetings and prepares minutes, agendas and reports for all Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings.
o Support operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members and interfacing between Board and staff.
o Assist in the selection and evaluation of board members with nominations/elections committee members and supports board member involvement with strategic goals, events, and fundraising.
o Executes all decisions of the Board of Directors except in cases when assignments are made specifically by the Board.
o Provides liaison and staff support to Committees to enable them to perform their assigned functions.
Human Resource Management
o Determine staffing requirements for Associational management and program delivery. Executes such contracts and commitments as may be authorized by the Board of Directors or established policies.
o Oversees the implementation of the staffing policies, procedures, and practices. Safeguards confidential information as it applies to the daily functions of the association and members.
o Establish and maintain a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.
o Oversee the hiring, management, and development of the Association’s staff and/or independent contractors necessary to meet Association’s operational goals in abidance with the budget.
o Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
o Ensure staff and/or independent contractors receive timely and appropriate training and development to succeed in their defined roles.
Additional Duties as Assigned
o Carries out such other general responsibilities as may be delegated by the Executive Officers and Board of Directors.
