Purpose: Assist Carpenters and other civil trades in the construction, installation and fabrication of form structures of wood, patent form systems, or a combination of both.


Level Classification:  Multi-level designations indicate levels of proficiency, experience, training, education, certification, tenure and resulting compensation


Work Schedule: Varies by location.  Must have open availability any time any day of the week.  Length of employment is limited to job assignment and/or project duration.


Essential Skills (may include but are not limited to the ability to)

Level I/II/III

  • Identify safety equipment
  • Identify hand tools
  • Identify power tools
  • Clean and oil patented forms
  • Use handsaw
  • Drive nails
  • Strip forms
  • Use sledge hammer and stripping bar
  • Follow verbal instructions
  • Identify parts and sizes of panels for patented forms
  • Identify form hardware to erect forms
  • Identify nail types and sizes
  • Perform basic math
  • Make measurements using a tape to the 1/8" tolerance
  • Use hand tools
  • Operate power tools
  • Use handsaws
  • Operate portable generators
  • Use form hardware to erect forms
  • Read a ruler
  • Recognize and identify unsafe conditions and the regulations applicable to employee's work environment to control or      eliminate any hazards of other exposure to illness or injury
  • Work within company policy as outlined in the Lauren Engineers & Constructors Craft Handbook and in compliment with the LEC Human Resources Policy Manual, LEC Safety Manual and OSHA Safety rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.


Level I/II

  • Identify patented form hardware
  • Identify lumber by grade and size
  • Identify parts of a form and purpose of each
  • Know OSHA scaffold and ladder rules
  • Erect tube and safety scaffolds
  • Use hand tools
  • Set up, use, and store oxyacetylene cutting rig
  • Practice OSHA scaffold and ladder rules
  • Hand signal equipment operators
  • Use form hardware
  • Read blueprint plans and elevations


Level I

  • Build radius forms, haunch forms, fireproof beams, install block-outs and pipe sleeves
  • Use a framing square for layout work
  • Assemble patented forms
  • Read and interpret civil blueprints to perform erection tasks
  • Identify reinforcing steel
  • Set anchor bolts and embeds
  • Perform rigging for lifts
  • Form chest from blueprints
  • Form manhole
  • Perform basic rebar tying


Essential Qualifications

  • 3+ months of industrial/construction/general labor experience
  • Ability to work with others to achieve job goals
  • Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (other preferences will be given for special language skills where there is a business need)


Physical Requirements

  • Stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects

Environment: Construction Workers performphysically demanding work including lifting and carrying heavy objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling in awkward positions. Some work at great heights, or outdoors in all weather conditions. Some jobs expose workers to harmful materials or chemicals, fumes, odors, loud noise, or dangerous machinery. Some workers may be exposed to lead-based paint, asbestos, or other hazardous substances during their work especially when working in confined spaces. To avoid injury, workers in these jobs wear safety clothing, such as gloves, hardhats, protective chemical suits, and devices to protect their eyes, respiratory system, or hearing. While working in underground construction, Construction Workers must be especially alert to safely follow procedures and must deal with a variety of hazards.
