Essential Qualifications:


High school plus specialized, short-term training in aseptic technique. 

Certification in surgical technology. 

More than one year experience in operating room. 

Must demonstrate knowledge to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients on assigned unit.

 SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATION

  

Summary:
Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the Operating Room

 

Responsibilities:
*Evaluates and coordinates activities during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeons¿ needs and necessary supplies.

*Scrub In and assist surgeons with various types of surgical procedures by maintaining current knowledge of various procedures and supplies.

*Adheres to proper surgical procedures of aseptic technique and safety in the use of instruments and equipment.

*Maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments. Gathers supplies and instruments and assemble before procedures.

*Autoclaves instrument trays as required.

*Ensures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source.

*Maintains current knowledge of anatomy/physiology and medications used intraoperatively.

*Keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops and publications.

*Assists in maintaining the quality assessment program developed for the department
