    General Function:
    The Mandela International Magnet School (MIMS) is a fully authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for the Middle Years Program (MYP 7-10) and the Diploma Program (DP 11-12). Our school was founded in the 2014-2015 school year, and has grown a grade per year. In 2019-20 our projected student population will be 285.

    MIMS seeks an english teacher who specializes in one or more content areas of interest and can connect themes, concepts and thinking strategies across disciplines. As a globally-minded school, the ideal candidate will bring an international perspective and will contribute to building a school culture where students are encouraged to be curious, principled, kind and fulfill their potential for intellectual and emotional growth. Additionally, the ideal candidate is one who is excited by the prospect of developing interdisciplinary units with colleagues, can teach within the IB framework (or is willing to learn), and establishes strong relationships with students both in and out of the classroom.

    Education/Training/Experience

    Minimum: Four-year degree, Masters prefered, and valid New Mexico Secondary Teaching License (or the ability to obtain such), with appropriate endorsements for the courses being taught.
    Preferred: IB Experience, international experience, bi or multi-lingual, and at least two years previous teaching experience in middle and/or high school.

    Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
    • Demonstrates general knowledge of middle school and high school Language Arts curriculum and instruction, and can blend competencies, i.e. Common Core standards with IB standards.
    • Solution-oriented, melds autonomy with accountability, and exercises sound judgment to instruct students and develop their character.
    • Is a learner that thrives on continuous improvement, and who remains current with the latest developments in their profession.
    • Fluently uses technology as an instructional tool for learning.
    • Is culturally competent, meaning they deal easily with multiple ethnic groups and see the world as a classroom.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and establishes and maintains effective relationships with students, peers and parents. Collaborating with others to achieve the vision, mission and overall goals of the school is critical.


    Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):

    A wide variety of instructional materials and resources are used, including electronic/digital equipment. SMARTBOARDS are standard in each classroom and each student receives a laptop computer. The Google suite of applications, including Google Classroom, is extensively used, as is the ManageBac software application, which is uniquely adapted for IB.

    Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

    Typical teacher requirements such as: regularly required to stand; move throughout the room and/or facility; communicate verbally and electronically; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance, and drive. Regularly required to lift or exert force of up to 25 pounds. ;Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    Environmental Conditions:
    Typical teacher conditions such as: usually moderate noise levels. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally required to travel to other facilities within the District.

    Essential Job Functions
    All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include the following:
    plans and implement the IB program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and complies with IB standards, Common Core State Standards plus the SFPS Board of Education goals and objectives.
    1. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
    2. Willing to work on unit plan writing and development in accordance with IB guidelines.
    3. Excited to participate in our Harvard Project Zero grant: focus on developing student thinking.
    4. Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
    5. Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
    6. Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans (IEPs).
    7. Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
    8. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day and communicates with parents regularly to inform about their child’s academic progress.
    9. Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
    10. Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
    11. Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers and exhibits of student's work.
    12. Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
    13. Collaborates with peers to develop common assessments.
    14. Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
    15. Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Personal Accountability:

    Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
    Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
