Position Summary

The Sport Administration program at theUniversity of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for a for a full time,Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Sport Administration faculty position beginningin the fall of the 2020-2021 academic year.

UNM is the state’s flagship researchuniversity as well as a Hispanic-Serving Institution classified a CarnegieResearch University with Highest Research Activity. UNM also has strong connections with 23tribal sovereign nations located within New Mexico. As such, successful candidates must becommitted to working with broadly diverse student and community populations.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected towork collaboratively with program faculty and maintain an active researchagenda. The successful candidate will be expected to teachgraduate and undergraduate-level courses related to youth sports and may also berequired to teach other courses in Sport Administration. The successfulcandidate will advise master’s and doctoral-level graduate studentsspecializing in Sport Administration and will be expected to help meet theneeds for service on degree committees of Sport Administration. This person may supervise graduate-levelinternships and will maintain regular office hours (3-5 hours per week).

UNM is located in Albuquerque - ametropolitan area of more than 500,000 people - between the beautiful RioGrande River and the picturesque Sandia Mountains. The city hasfantastic local cuisine, a variety of art galleries, sporting events, and easyaccess to a myriad of outdoor recreational opportunities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in sport administration or aclosely-related field. Degree must be completed by UNM faculty contract start date;
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct and publish original researchin the area of sport management/administration; and
  • Demonstrated ability orpotential in teaching graduate-level courses in sport management/administration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability or potential to serve on doctoraldissertation committees and comprehensive exam committees for both M.S. andPh.D.;
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to teach graduate-level classes inYouth Sport Development and Coaching;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity,equity, inclusion and student success, as well as working with broadly diversecommunities;
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct and publishoriginal research in the area sport management/administration;
  • Experiencewith qualitative and/or quantitative research methods; and
  • Expertise in the use of technology andonline instruction related to sport management/administration; and
  • Activeinvolvement in one or more professional organizations in field.
