Position Summary

The Division of Endocrinology, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a term Research Tech 3 to assist with the GRADE Type 2 diabetes research study. This is a highly demanding position that requires clinic experience, fluency in Spanish, attention to detail, ability to work independently, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize. The chosen applicant will work as part of a research team to retain study participants for a 7-year study. In addition, this employee will be responsible for working closely with clinical and administrative staff in a research setting, and be responsible for conducting clinic visit assessments, performing phlebotomy, IV's, sample processing and shipping, administering questionnaires, and tracking patients between study visits. The Research Tech 3 will work with confidential data and sensitive health information, and directly with patients, their primary care physicians, and clinic staff. This protocol includes both English and Spanish speaking subjects. The employee will be required to have excellent clinic skills, experience with documentation, and teamwork skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Independently conduct clinic assessments to include anthropometric measurements and vitals.

2.Independently administer neurocognitive questionnaires.

3.Enter study data into MIDAS data entry system, and miscellaneous office duties.

4.Independently allocate study supplies and maintain site inventory.

5.Skilled in performing phlebotomy, sample processing, and shipping.

Conditions of Employment
  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in a clinic setting with patients/participants and performing clinic assessments
  • Prior experience with phlebotomy, IV's, sample collection, processing, and shipping.
  • Experience with data entry and miscellaneous office duties.
  • Experience administering questionnaires in English and Spanish.
  • Fluent in Spanish (ability to read, write, and speak Spanish).
  • Candidate must have shipping certification or obtain within one month of hire date.
