Position Summary

The College of Nursing at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Lecturer 1 position for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Bureau of Health Workforce, "Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention (NEPQR) - Veteran Nurses in Primary Care (VNPC) Training Program". This is a 3 year grant funded position.

This candidate will be the facilitator between veteran, academia, and clinical partners for this project. In collaboration with project faculty, this position will oversee and implement project strategies for veteran student recruitment, develop and evaluate academic partnerships with veteran and community based rural/underserved primary care sites, and promote RN primary care development within primary care teams.

Project objectives include:

1. Recruitment of primary care oriented veteran undergraduate students and development of support strategies unique to veterans for successful completion and gainful employment.

2. Develop and facilitate academic partnerships with veteran and community based rural/underserved primary care sites serving veterans to provide students’ longitudinal clinical training experiences.

3. Develop continuing professional development sessions for faculty and practicing RNs aimed at developing primary care team expertise to address needs of an aging population, complex medical needs in community settings, and unique needs in the care of veterans using TeleECHOTM technology.

4. Enhance existing undergraduate didactic and clinical training curriculum to include primary care, population health, and IPE content.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing, population, public. or community health
  • Must be eligible for nursing licensure in New Mexico
  • Two or more year’s experience with primary care nursing in community settings
  • Must be eligible for New Mexico driver’s license - For instate travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience with the Veteran’s Affairs health care system
  • Rural health experience
  • Skill in developing new programs and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
