The Geographic Management of Cancer Health Disparities Program (GMaP) Region 3, a P30 Supplement at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNM CCC) is seeking a Senior Operations Manager to serve as the Regional Coordinating Director (RCD). Newly housed in the Cancer Research Career Enhancement Core, the RCD will work closely with Co-Project Directors in the Cancer Control and Population Sciences Research Program to oversee day to day operations of a cancer and cancer health disparities research and career development network within and across institutions in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. The RCD is key to helping achieve programmatic goals:

1. To promote the development of the next generation of competitive, underrepresented cancer and cancer health disparities investigators, trainees and students interested in cancer and cancer health disparities research; and

2. To conduct environmental scan of biospecimen/biobanking resources and report of findings to document biospecimen collections for racial/ethnic minority populations.

The Regional Coordinating Director will:

1. Plan and oversee the strategic, operational, and administrative functions of the GMAP.

2. Establish and implement short- and long-range goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitor and evaluate programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effect changes required for improvement.

3. Regularly communicate with Region 3 institutional and community-based partners as well as other GMAP regional hubs as designated by the NCI/CRCHD

4. Coordinate the development and maintenance of a web-based platform for informational exchange

5. Create and update a comprehensive list of cancer health disparities and educational/pipeline programs

6. Provide strategic advice and recommendations to leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new or modified operating policies, practices, and procedures within the specified functional area of focus.

7. Manage and/or provide day-to-day leadership to various technical, professional, and/or administrative personnel engaged in specified GMAP-related activities.

8. Track Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences scholars’ career progression and coordination with CRCHD Training Navigators including Partnerships to Advance Cancer Health Equity (PACHE) trainees. Trainees/scholars would include those identified through GMaP activities and PACHE trainees in your region.

9. Provide database of career development resources with pertinent information (e.g., focus, target group, planned date(s), and frequency/regularity). This would include, but not limited to, resources like Technical Assistance Workshops, Expert Grant Review, Call for Pilot Projects/Awards, and Travel Scholarships. Alignment of resource with FOA receipt or conference dates would be reasonable.

10. Represent, as assigned, the UNM GMAP to funding agencies, national organizations, and/or the general public at various community and/or programmatic meetings.

11. Conduct environmental scan of biospecimen/biobanking resources and provide report of findings.

12. Provide dataset of tools for promotion of biospecimens among racial/ethnic minorities. Include efforts to coordinate with Community Health Educators in the region and the role the CHE plays in the promotion efforts. Also include communication strategies and modes to promote biospecimen donation among racial/ethnic minorities.

13. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess personal and professional maturity, have highly developed interpersonal skills, will be comfortable travelling and representing the GMaP program and UNMCCC in a variety of academic and professional capacities, and have experience working in medical related research, cancer related research and/or with National Institutes of Health programs. The candidate will have the ability to work effectively with a variety of University and community stakeholders, ability to adapt to changing priorities, ability to work independently, and the ability to multitask. The individual must effectively communicate with a wide range of constituents.

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 125 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 500 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provided cancer care for nearly 60 percent of the adults and children in New Mexico affected by cancer. They treated 11,249 patients in 84,875 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. These patients came from every county in the State. More than 12 percent of these patients participated in cancer clinical trials testing new cancer treatments and 35 percent of patients participated in other clinical research studies, including tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The 130 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded almost $60 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects and published 301 high quality publications. Promoting economic development, they filed more than 30 new patents in FY16, and since 2010, have launched 11 new biotechnology start-up companies. Scientists associated with the UNMCCC Cancer Control & Disparities have conducted more than 60 statewide community-based cancer education, prevention, screening, and behavioral intervention studies involving more than 10,000 New Mexicans. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 230 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

· Master’s degree in public health, population health, health education, communication or a cancer related area.


· At least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

· Prior experience with cancer research in the areas of prevention, treatment and/or clinical trials
