Position:               Instructional Coach

Reports to:            School Site Principal

Site:                      School Site

FLSA Status:        Exempt

Contract Length:   9 months and10 days (198 days)

Purpose:      To assist teachers in promoting the educational development of each student. Provide instructional support and professional development for instructional staff across the district. Provides academic intervention as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

                  

                   Master’s degree in Education or equivalent field required;

                        Possess a III NM license;

                        Administrative license preferred;

                        TESOL Endorsement (preferred);

                        Experience in working with Native American community or populations preferred.

                        Minimum of ten years teaching experience;

                        Positive, energetic leader who encourages staff members;

                        Strong time and organizational skills;

                        Strong computer skills with familiarity of Goggle Docs;

                        Self motivated and able to work without direct supervision;

                        Ability to demonstrate instructional leadership;

                        Knowledge and familiarity with content areas and pedagogy curriculum strategy;

                        Ability to exhibit theoretical and research based knowledge of instruction;

                        Ability to develop an effective working relationship with students, staff and school community

                        Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

                        Ability to speak effectively before groups;

                        Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;

                        Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies;

                         

Essential Duties:

  • Meets with assigned Principal on a weekly basis to coordinate activities and monitor progress.

Instruction Coaching/Mentoring Duties:

  • Assist teachers in recognizing culturally responsive strategies related direction to the Zuni population;
  • Encourage teachers in maintaining a positive demeanor in the presence of students, peers, and community;
  • Work with teachers in their classrooms to improve instructional strategies through a collaborative coaching model for greater student achievement;
  • Provide ongoing professional development to staff in consultation with the Principal;
  • Provide constructive feedback to teachers in their approach and instruction;
  • Facilitate conversations among teachers that result in a common understanding of state and common core standards;
  • Provide guidance to teachers in the use of data to inform instruction;
  • Assist teachers with all required district incentives and requirements;
  • Manage time appropriately;
  • Create a positive atmosphere that promotes cooperation with the administration, parents, co-workers, and students;
  • Model instructional strategies and techniques in classrooms as appropriate;
  • Assist teachers in the development and implementation of appropriate classroom management strategies while maintaining high expectations for student behavior;
  • Facilitate professional learning communities;
  • Utilize google docs in coaching as well as train others how to utilize google docs;
  • Assist staff in analyzing data to inform instruction;
  • May coordinate the SAT process or assist in the process;
  • Perform classroom observations regularly in coordination with the Principal;
  • Prepare for and provide workshops and trainings. This consists of creating, developing and publishing materials as needed as well as disseminating information and using data;
  • Conduct school/classroom visits in coordination of with the Principal to support instructional staff toward implementing professional development concepts and skills into practice in their classrooms;
  • Work to improve classroom instructional strategies, providing opportunities for peer observations, and/or team-teaching;
  • Provide technical assistance to teachers and educational assistants on the 3-Tiered Evaluation System and completion of the Professional Development Dossier required for advancement to Level II or Level III;
  • Assists instructional staff in locating classroom materials and resources to supplement the district curriculum and meet the needs of students;
  • Provide mentoring support and weekly monitoring of teachers to assist them in meeting the teaching competencies at their license level;
  • Develop mentoring induction program in collaboration with Principal and District Administration;
  • Identify teachers for mentoring support in collaboration with Principal;
  • May cover the classroom as assigned;
  • Implement instructional strategies in coordination with the Principal;

Administrative Duties:

  • Compiles and submits a variety of weekly, monthly and year end reports as required;
  • Maintain familiarity with current educational issues through a process of ongoing personal development;
  • Comply with Board policies and administrative regulations;
  • Coordinate all necessary state and local assessments;
  • Be available to parents, students, administration, and peers outside the school day as necessary;
  • May make site or home visits when needed and appropriate;
  • May perform duties as required for the organization’s success and will occasionally perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Serve on district Committees as appointed, delegated, or requested;
  • Provide test preparation and coursework support to assist instructional staff in meeting the Every Student Succeed Act Highly Qualified status;

 

                       

Physical Functions:

  • Stand, sit, talk and listen for long periods of time;
  • Reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required;
  • Use repetitive hand, arm and finger motions;
  • Reaches with hands and arms, bend and turns neck frequently;
  • Lift up to 40 pounds on occasion, 20 pounds frequently;
  • Walk for on even and uneven surfaces;
  • Sits at a computer with arms bent and typing for various periods of time;
  • Work in a school environment with varying temperatures and noises;
  • Operates vehicle & equipment with finger(s), hand(s), foot and eye coordination.

Mental Functions:

 

  • Read information in various formats, research information and present information in oral and written form;
  • Must be able stay focused and handle interruptions with professionalism and patience;
  • Must be able to handle difficult people and difficult situations in a pleasant manner;
  • Must be able to provide people directions to school sites;
  • Must be able to follow policies, procedures, rules, regulations and processes;
  • Must be able to complete job assignment independently & inter-dependently, with little direct supervision.

Essential Equipment:

  • Operate office equipment, computer, scanner, printer, calculator, smart board, phone, etc.;
  • Operate a vehicle and hold a valid driver’s license;
